Freedom Day

Tänään on uuden Etelä-Afrikan kansallispäivä Freedom Day, jota juhlitaan ensimmäisten vapaiden vaalien muistopäivänä. Demokratia on nyt 18-vuotias, eikä siis ihme, että paljon on vielä tehtävää. Moni elää kurjissa oloissa, mutta siitä huolimatta Freedom Day näyttäytyy täällä päivänä, jolloin ollaan kiitollisia saavutetuista parannuksista ja muistetaan ja kiitetään niitä, jotka taistelivat demokratian eteen. Siinä yhdistyvät eurooppalaisista lipuista tutut sininen, valkoinen ja punainen eli vapaus, tasa-arvo ja veljeys, sekä ANC:n värit musta, vihreä ja kulta.
